The State Minister for Fisheries and Woman Member of Parliament aspirant for Serere District, Hellen Adoa, has called on residents to celebrate Christmas peacefully and to vote in appreciation of what she described as the National Resistance Movement (NRM) government’s commitment to the Teso sub-region.
Addressing Christians at St. Peter’s Church of Uganda on Christmas Day, Adoa said she had come to share the festive season with the community and to wish them blessings as the country heads toward the 2026 elections.
She thanked residents of Gaddafi and Bukedea for their continued support for women leaders from the region, saying it reflected appreciation for President Yoweri Kaguta Museveni’s decision to elevate leaders from Teso to top national positions.
Adoa cited Vice President Jessica Alupo as a key example, noting that having a “daughter of the soil” as the country’s second-in-command was a major milestone for the region.
She also mentioned Speaker of Parliament Anita Among, describing her as another symbol of Teso’s growing influence at the national level.
She urged voters to show gratitude by supporting President Museveni in the forthcoming elections, alongside NRM candidates at all levels, arguing that aligned leadership would enhance service delivery.
“Load us together with him so that we serve you better,” Adoa told supporters.
The minister also praised the relative calm that has characterized the campaign period so far, noting that with about 20 days left to the elections, Serere District had not recorded deaths or major incidents linked to political violence. She appealed to both her supporters and political rivals to maintain peace before, during, and after the elections.
Adoa revealed that, following guidance from religious leaders, she had resolved not to engage in confrontations with political opponents.
Instead, she said she would focus on presenting her track record and future plans. Among the commitments she highlighted were plans to support religious leaders through special funding arrangements to enable them to access credit.
She further announced government interventions aimed at improving livelihoods, including Shs30 billion earmarked for fishermen to be disbursed after the elections, enhancements to parish-level development funds, and increased facilitation for local government leaders.
Adoa urged voters to pray before casting their ballots and to vote wisely.
“When you vote for someone who cannot help you, you have lost that vote,” she said, wishing residents a Merry Christmas and a prosperous New Year.
